About this tool

PDF is a print format: when a document became a PDF, its paragraphs, headings, and text flow were flattened into positioned glyphs. This tool reads those positions back and reconstructs an editable Word document (paragraphs, headings, bold and italic, font sizes) directly in your browser. Nothing is uploaded; the PDF and the .docx never leave your device.

The honest framing: you get your text back in an editable structure, not a pixel-perfect replica of the page. Clean prose documents (letters, reports, contracts, essays) reconstruct well, and embedded images are carried into the document at their placed size. Multi-column layouts, floating text boxes, and footnotes can come out in a different order than they appear visually. If you need the exact appearance rather than editable text, the PDF itself is already that.

Scanned PDFs are photographs of text with nothing to extract. If your file is a scan, run it through the OCR tool first: that writes a real text layer into the PDF, and this tool can then pull an editable document out of the result. The page tells you when that applies rather than silently producing an empty file.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is parsed and the Word document is assembled entirely in your browser. Its contents never leave your device.
Will the Word document look exactly like the PDF?
No. It recovers the structure (paragraphs, headings, bold/italic, sizes) rather than the exact layout. Clean single-column documents come through well; complex layouts can shift or reorder. The goal is editable text rather than a replica.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Not directly: a scan has no text layer to extract. Run the free OCR tool first; it adds a searchable text layer, and this tool can then convert the result.
Do images in the PDF convert?
Yes. Embedded images are carried into the Word document at their placed size, in reading order alongside the text. Very small decorative graphics may be skipped.
What Word versions can open the output?
The output is a standard .docx (Word 2007 and later), and it also opens in Google Docs, LibreOffice, and Pages.
