About this tool

Unlocking removes the password you have to type every time a PDF opens. Bank statements, card statements, phone bills, salary slips, e-Aadhaar and other government documents all tend to arrive locked. Sensible for delivery, annoying forever after. If you know the password, this opens the file with it and gives you back a copy that just opens. No prompt, no restrictions.

The same PDFium engine that runs the rest of this site opens the document with your password, then rewrites it with the security handler stripped out, so the copy carries no encryption at all. The file and the password live in memory and go nowhere. That part matters. Statements and payslips are about the last things anyone should be uploading to a stranger's server just to remove a password.

Worth being straight about the scope: this removes a password you already know. It cannot crack or guess one you don't have, and neither can any legitimate tool. What it handles is the common case, the document from your bank or employer that opens fine but that you're tired of unlocking. Your original stays put; the unlocked copy downloads as a separate file.

Do I need to know the password?
Yes. This removes a password from a file you can already open. It doesn't crack or recover a password you don't have, and nothing legitimate does. Type the password, get an unlocked copy. That's the deal.
Is my file or password uploaded anywhere?
No. PDFium opens the file locally with the password you type, which sits in memory only long enough to unlock it, then re-saves the file with its encryption stripped out, all inside the same tab. A bank statement or a payslip has no reason to touch a server for that, and the network panel backs it up.
Does it work on AES-encrypted PDFs, or only old ones?
Both. Old RC4 files and modern AES (128- and 256-bit) unlock the same way. Give it the right open password and the copy comes out fully decrypted.
What about a PDF that opens fine but blocks printing or copying?
That's an owner-password restriction, a different thing from an open password. Because such a file still carries encryption inside, this tool will show its password prompt even though the file opens for you elsewhere. Removing owner-only restrictions isn't covered here.
Is the unlocked PDF identical to the original?
Yes. Same pages, same text, same layout, minus the encryption. Your original stays untouched on disk and the unlocked copy downloads under a new name.
