About this tool

Resizing changes the page dimensions, not the file size. (Smaller megabytes is what the Compress tool is for.) You want it when a document was built at the wrong size for wherever it's going: the US Letter report that has to print on A4 abroad, the deck exported at some odd size that needs to be Legal, the batch of pages you'd like at half scale. Pick a paper size or a percentage and every page gets redone to match, preview included.

Two modes. Paper size fits each page onto A4, US Letter, Legal, A3, or A5. Content scales proportionally and sits centered, letterboxed rather than stretched, and orientation follows each page by default (landscape pages land on landscape paper) unless you force portrait or landscape. Scale multiplies the dimensions by a percentage instead, 50% to halve, 200% to double, aspect ratio always kept. Pages that were rotated stay rotated.

pdf-lib rebuilds the file in your browser. Nothing uploads, and the original sits on disk exactly as it was. One thing to know: each page gets recomposited onto a fresh sheet to keep the geometry exact, so interactive form fields, links, and comments don't survive the trip. If you need those, fill or flatten first, then resize.

Frequently asked questions

Does resizing reduce the file size?
Not really, and not on purpose. Resizing is about page dimensions; making the file smaller in megabytes is what the Compress PDF tool does. Scaling down can shave a little off as a side effect, but don't count on it.
Will my content get stretched or distorted?
No. Content always scales proportionally and gets centered on the new page. A page whose shape doesn't match the target paper ends up letterboxed with even margins, never stretched to fill.
What paper sizes and scales can I choose?
A4, US Letter, Legal, A3, and A5, each in auto, portrait, or landscape orientation. Or flip to Scale mode and use 25%, 50%, 75%, 150%, 200%, or type your own percentage.
What happens to different-sized pages in one PDF?
Each page is resized on its own. With auto orientation, landscape pages get landscape paper and portrait pages get portrait paper, so a mixed document comes out consistent without any sorting on your part.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
pdf-lib recomposites each page onto its new sheet directly inside the tab that opened it. There's no server in the loop, so nothing about resizing requires your file to leave your device.
