About this tool

Scanning a single-sided document on a duplex scanner produces a blank back for every sheet, so forty pages arrive as eighty and half of them are empty. The same thing happens with section dividers, with fax cover sheets, and with anything printed double-sided that only used one side. Deleting them by hand means opening the file, checking each page, and ticking forty boxes, which is exactly the sort of task people put off and then send the bloated file anyway.

Drop a PDF and every page is rendered and measured for how much ink it actually carries. The empty ones are listed as thumbnails with their reading, already ticked for removal, and you confirm. That review step is deliberate: detection is a judgement call, not a fact, so anything the tool wants to delete is shown to you first and one click rescues it. Three sensitivity settings cover the range from a clean digital document to a noisy scan, and the highest setting also catches a back page carrying nothing but a printed page number.

A scanned blank page is never actually blank: it has sensor noise, a grey paper cast, dust, and very often a dark band along one edge where the lid didn't close flat. Testing for pure white finds nothing on a real scan, so the measurement ignores a border margin and counts only pixels clearly darker than paper. The pages you keep are copied across untouched: no re-rendering, so text stays selectable and image quality is unchanged. It all runs in your browser, and the tool will never hand back an empty document.

Frequently asked questions

How does it decide a page is blank?
It renders each page and measures what fraction of it is clearly darker than paper, ignoring a margin around the edge. That border crop matters: a scanned blank very often has a dark band down one side from the lid not closing flat, and testing for pure white would find ink on every page.
What if it wants to delete a page that is not blank?
You will see it before that happens. Every page the tool wants to remove is shown as a thumbnail with its ink reading, and unticking it keeps it. The review step exists precisely because detection is a heuristic: the tool has measured the page, but you have looked at it.
My blank pages have a page number on them. Will it find those?
Set the sensitivity to High. The default deliberately keeps any page carrying real marks, because for most documents a page with something printed on it is a page you want. High also catches faint letterheads and watermarks, so check the thumbnails before confirming.
Will the pages I keep be re-rendered or compressed?
No. Rendering is only used to look at the pages; the ones you keep are copied into the new document exactly as they were, so text stays selectable and scans keep their original resolution.
Could it delete everything?
No, it refuses to. If every page scores as blank, which happens with a genuinely empty scan or a sensitivity set too high, nothing is removed and the tool tells you instead. A zero-page PDF is a broken file, and quietly deleting an entire document is the worst thing a tool like this could do.
